Data protection statement

We are delighted that you are visiting our website and should like to thank you for taking an interest in our Institute and Internet offering. We regard safeguarding your privacy when you use our website as important. Therefore we act in accordance with applicable statutory regulations, relating to the protection of personal data and to data security. We shall explain to you below to which website(s) this data protection statement applies, what data we collect, process and use, what information rights you have and much more.

Scope of application

This data protection statement applies to use of the EICP’s website. It does not apply to the websites of other providers, which are only linked to the EICP’s website.

Personal data

Personal data includes details about the personal or material circumstances of a particular or identifiable individual person. Thus, for example, your name, your address, your bank account, ID or telephone number, your vehicle licence plate, your e-mail address or IP number are all personal data. Non-personal data on the other hand includes such information that cannot be used to establish your true identity. This includes, for example, information about your gender, what browser you use or what brand of car you prefer.

Anonymity

When using the EICP website you remain anonymous, so long as you do not voluntarily disclose personal data to us. The only exception to this principle is the temporary automatic recording and storage of your IP number. You can find out more below.

Automatic recording, processing and use of personal data

Every time you visit the EICP website we automatically record information about which IP number has been allocated to your computer, which browser and which operating system you use and which websites you have visited. This data is saved in so-called log files on the web server. In this respect the IP number is the only item of personal data. To prevent misuse of our computer system, the IP number of every visitor must be saved for a limited period. Beyond that, if we were to use the log files to generate usage profiles, be it for advertising, market research or needs-based website design purposes, the IP numbers will be anonymised in advance. Otherwise the IP numbers will be deleted from the log files. In effect you remain anonymous, even if your IP number is automatically recorded and temporarily saved.

Other recording, processing or use of personal data

Otherwise we only record, process or use your personal data if you disclose it voluntarily to us and this is permitted by law or you have given your consent. We only use the personal data that you have disclosed to us for advised or agreed purposes.

Use of personal data for advertising or market research purposes

To maintain the client relationship with you, we sometimes have an interest in using your personal data for advertising, market research or other purposes. However we always communicate this intent in advance and request your express consent.

Disclosure, sale or forwarding of personal data to third parties

We do not disclose, sell or otherwise forward your personal data to third parties, unless this is required for any advised or agreed purpose or unless you have given your express consent.

Revoking your consent

You are free at any time to revoke your consent to the use of your personal data for any agreed purpose at any future date. In this regard please revert to the contact detailed below.

Security measures

The EICP takes the necessary technical and organisational security action to protect your personal data from loss or misuse. Therefore your data is saved in a secure operating environment, to which the general public does not have access. Should you wish to contact the EICP by e-mail, we should like to point out that the confidentiality of the information that you communicate cannot be guaranteed. The content of e-mails can – as with postcards – be read by third parties. We therefore recommend you to send us confidential information by post only.

Right to information

Upon request we shall be pleased to inform you if and what personal data of yours is on our files. In this regard please revert to the contact detailed below.

Amendments to and deletion of personal data

If you wish to have your personal data amended or deleted, please just revert to the contact detailed below. Basically your personal data will be deleted, once it has served the purpose for which it was originally intended. We should however like to point out that we may possibly not be permitted to delete your data, to comply with statutory retention or accounting obligations. In such a case, you however retain the right to have the data blocked.

Amendments to this data protection statement

Rapid technological development of the Internet and changes to data protection laws make it necessary for us to amend our data protection statement from time to time to adapt to new requirements. Therefore please refer to the most up-to-date data protection statement, as appropriate, which currently is as of October 2008.
